He was a four-year letter-winning defensive back on Northwestern football teams that compiled a 41-6-1 record from 1983-86, won the 1983 national championship, finished season in '84 and reached the semifinals in '85…He earned NAIA All-District 15 honors as a junior and senior...A team co-captain in '86, he was named an All-American, an All-American Scholar-Athlete and the NAIA Defensive Player of the Week...In Northwestern records since 1980, he is sixth in career tackles with 299 and fourth in career interceptions with 15...De Haan also is credited with longest punt, a 78-yarder against St. Ambrose in '86...Now a real estate appraiser and lecturer in agribusiness at NWC.
