Smith Earns First Career GPAC Weekly Honor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern freshman golfer Evan Smith has been selected as this week's GPAC Men's Golfer of the Week, presented by Hauff Mid-America Sports, for his performance the week of April 14.

Smith won his first career event at the Raider Invitational last Monday, matching his career-low round of 67 in the second round and winning the 53-golfer event with a birdie in a playoff. Smith has a 74.4 average in 26 rounds heading into the national meet, posting three top-10 finishes on the year.

"I'm so happy for Evan. He's been battling back from an offseason elbow surgery and was struggling in the early spring," head coach Aaron Aberson commented. "He's worked hard to get back to where we know he's capable of playing and this is validation of that."

After clinching the GPAC title earlier this week, the Raiders will next compete at the NAIA Championships in Silvis, Illinois on May 20-23.
