Top-Ranked Red Raiders Welcome Hastings for Homecoming on Saturday

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The top-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Northwestern College football team (5-0, 4-0 GPAC) takes the field at Korver Field at De Valois Stadium in Orange City for the second time this season when they welcome the Hastings College Broncos (3-3, 2-2 GPAC) to town on Homecoming weekend at Northwestern College. NWC NOTABLES
  • Northwestern hosts the Hastings Broncos for Homecoming on Saturday.
  • NWC has started the season 5-0 for the 19th time in program history.
  • Northwestern set a new program record with their 18th-straight win last week at Midland.
  • The Red Raiders have taken a weekly honor from the league office in four of the first five weeks of the season.
  • NWC is 15-0 with Jalyn Gramstad as the starting quarterback.
  • NWC leads the GPAC in total offense (489.8 yards per game), passing yards per game (296.0), and yards per rush (5.9).
  • The Raiders scored 28 touchdowns this season: 16 rushing and 12 passing.
  • Northwestern holds the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA for the fourth-straight poll, receiving all 18 of the first-place votes for the third-straight poll.
  • NWC now holds a record of 27-6 in the month of September under McCarty; finishing 2023 5-0 in the month.
  • McCarty closes in on 75 career wins, entering 2023 with 72 wins to his name heading to Fremont.
  • Konner McQuillan is now second in the conference in rushing yards per game (99.8) and is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns (8).
  • Michael Storey leads the league in receiving yards per game (182.4) and tied for the second in receiving touchdowns (6).
  • Jessen Reinking leads the team with his two forced fumbles this season and now leads the team in sacks (3.0).
  • Since 2020 when the deep playoff runs began for Northwestern, NWC is one of eight NAIA programs to make the NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) (see p. 5 of notes for full list of teams).
FAST STARTS
  • Northwestern has gotten off to fast starts in 2023, outscoring opponents 41-10 in the first quarter this season.
  • Only Concordia (Neb.) and Midland has scored on the Red Raider defense in the first quarter.
  • NWC has held three opponents (Drake, Doane, Mount Marty) scoreless in the first 15 minutes of play.
NEW GUY ON THE BLOCK
  • True freshman Blake Thompson up until two weeks ago was playing wide receiver for the Red Raiders.
  • He switched to defensive back two weeks ago.
  • Last week at MMU, he made his first-career appearance on the depth chart, sitting as the back-up to Lorenzen.
  • He showed out big against the Lancers with his first-career interception, returning 86 yards.
NAIA COACHES' POLL
  • In the second regular season poll, three GPAC teams continue to be ranked in the top-25: Northwestern (No. 1), Morningside (No. 3), and Dordt (No. 14).
  • The preseason poll marks the 29th-straight week NWC has been ranked inside the top-5, dating back to May 17, 2021.
  • It's now 69-straight week the Red Raiders have been ranked inside the top-25.
  • For the fourth-straight poll, NWC has received all 18 first-place votes in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.

  • Saturday calls for the temperatures to dip down into the 50s, with a high of 55 degrees (as of Tuesday afternoon).
  • Wind gusts could be as strong as 10mph during the day, sitting between 5 to 10mph from the northwest (NW).
