Raider Men Take Fifth at NAIA Midwest Invitational

Brock Murphy finishes takes a seventh-place finish

SILVIS, Ill. – The Northwestern College men's golf team placed fifth at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Midwest Invitational, a two-round event taking place at the famous PGA Tour TPC Deere Run Golf Course in Silvis, Ill. on Monday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday, Sept. 27.

DAY ONE (ROUND 1)
The Raiders played 18 holes of golf on day one at TPC Deere Run, which is significantly change of pace than the tournaments they have played in this fall where 36 holes are typically played on the first day.

Brock Murphy (Sr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area), accustomed to shooting solid rounds, led the Raiders once again after firing a score of 74 (+2) on day one of the event. Murphy was followed competitively close by none other than Jackson Laven (So., Okoboji, Iowa/Spirit Lake), who concluded the round with a solid score of 76 (+4).

"Murphy and Laven will be a solid 1-2 punch at the top of our lineup," said Head coach Aaron Aberson prior to the first event of the fall season, which has proven to be true up to this point of the season.

DAY TWO (ROUND 2)
The Raiders also played only 18 holes on day two. Brock Murphy led the Raider squad again in round two by staying consistent and ending the round with score of 75 (+3). Freshman Qwenton Caldwell (Fr., Littleton, Colo./Addenbrooke Classical Academy) jumped into the top-20 individual standings by firing a 76 (+4) in the second, and final round of the event.

Senior Ezra Meyer (Sr., Spencer, Iowa/Spencer) made the biggest jump in standing for the Raiders, jumping six spots up the leader board by signing the scorecard of 77 (+5).

Mount Mercy University was crowned with the team title after the solid team scores of 300 and 293, finishing eight strokes ahead of second-place. Mount Mercy also carried the individual champion, Johan Wigertz, who signed the outstanding scores of 66 and 72, shooting -4 for the event and also winning by eight strokes.
