SIOUX CENTER/ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- The Northwestern College men's golf team had a phenomenal showing at the Siouxland Invite that they co-hosted. The Raiders placed third thanks to the two-day below par efforts from junior Trenton De Haan (Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley), helping the Raiders keep pace with Morningside and Iowa Western Community College.

De Haan posted a first round score of 68 (-4) and a second round of 70 (-1) to pace the Raider squad who maintained their Day 1 lead and finished third. 

"We had a couple of stand-out performances—highlighted by Trenton De Haan," said head coach Aaron Aberson. "He had complete control of his game and his scores reflected it."

De Haan had the only below-par day (Par 72) in Round 1 at The Ridge Golf Course in Sioux Center, posting a 68 (-4) day. The entire starting five posted rounds no higher than +2 at The Ridge for Northwestern. Brock Murphy (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area) and Kolby Newborg (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area) both posted rounds of 73 (+1) on the afternoon. After the first day, Northwestern sat in third-place, only one stroke ahead of tournament co-host and rival Dordt University. The Raiders sat within striking distance of the leaders from Iowa Western Community College (280) and fellow GPAC school Morningside (285). 

Day two - this afternoon - saw the action transition to Northwestern's home course in Orange City at Landsmeer Golf Club. While three Raiders sat below par on the day, they couldn't find a way to close in on the Mustangs or Iowa Western, finishing third-place in the field of fifteen. Matt Wynne (Jr., Norwalk, Iowa/Des Moines Christian) had an incredible round on Northwestern's B-team, posting a Day 2 round of 68 (-3) to tie De Haan for the team-lead in low round for the tournament. Murphy also joined in with a score under par of 70 (-1) to help Northwestern remain in third-place, a mere one stroke advantage over Doane and Dordt who finished tied for fourth. 

The field consisted of nine varsity squads, in which Northwestern topped six of them. Fellow GPAC schools in Concordia (Neb.), Dakota Wesleyan, Doane, Dordt, Morningside, and Mount Marty all competed at the event. 

"I'm proud of the way he carried our team. Overall, I'd say we were a bit disappointed with how we played on Day 2. The weather gave us a chance to post a low score on our home course but we couldn't take advantage," continued Aberson. "The guys battled well but we just didn't have things clicking in round 2. I'm confident we'll bounce back next week in Le Mars against a great field."
