Laven Leads Raiders With A Third-Place Finish At NAIA Memphis Shootout

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Northwestern College men's golf team competed at the NAIA Shootout at TPC Southwind on Monday, Oct. 11 and Tuesday, Oct. 12, hosted by Sterling College, finishing with a team finish of ninth out of nineteen teams.
 
Hosted at a golf course that is one of the hardest on the PGA Tour, TPC Southwind is a Par 72 course with a yardage of 6,716 in Memphis, Tenn. The event began on Monday with a 36-hole day, and Tuesday being a single-round of 18-holes.
 
Freshman Jackson Laven (Okoboji, Iowa/Spirit Lake) had a phenomenal outing on one of the toughest courses he will see in his collegiate career this week as he finished with a tied for third-place finish. Of the three rounds, Laven shot the Raiders' lowest two rounds of 74 in Round 2 and 73 in Round 3. After the first day, he sat tied for 5th amongst top competition from all across the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The final day saw him with a +1 on an extremely tough course that moved up him to third place individually.
 
Junior Trenton De Haan (Orange City, Iowa/MOC-Floyd Valley) shot his first-career hole-in-one at the event on Day 1 on Hole 4 (170 Yards, Par 3).
 
Brock Murphy (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area) finished tied for 15th amongst the tough NAIA competition with a score of 230 (77-74-73) and Kolby Newborg (Jr., Tea, S.D./Tea Area) finished five shots behind him with a 235 (79-80-76).
