High School: competed four years for the Pella High School cross country and track and field teams; two-time all-conference runner in cross country; helped lead his team to a fifth place finish at the 3A state meet as a senior; finished 30th as an individual at the state meet; two-time all-state in the open 800m and 4x800 relay; all-conference honors in track and field as a junior and senior.
