Smith Leads with Top-10 Finish at Northwest Iowa National Invitational

LE MARS, Iowa – The Northwestern College men's golf team finished eighth at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Willow Creek Golf Club in Le Mars. Evan Smith led the team individually, highlighted by his team-low round of 67 in the second.

The Raiders carded a three-round total of 844, eight strokes under par, with scores of 290, 276 and 278.

Evan Smith led Northwestern with an eighth-place finish, shooting a seven-under-par 206. Smith opened with a 69 and followed with a 67 before closing with a 70. Axton Miller also finished under par, tying for 14th with a 208. He shot rounds of 72, 68 and 68 to finish five strokes under par and moved up seven spots in the third round.

Nate Carlson tied for 38th with a one-over 214, posting rounds of 75, 71 and 68. Carlson was the biggest mover in the third round, moving up 13 spots in the final frame. Ray Greller tied for 50th at 217 (+4), carding rounds of 75, 70 and 72. Ben Christy rounded out Northwestern's team scores, placing 66th with a 226 (+13) after rounds of 74, 80 and 72.

Competing individually, Carter Langle tied for 56th with a 219 (+6), shooting 71, 75 and 73.

OUAZ won the team title with an 825 (-27), four strokes ahead of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.). Friends (Kan.) placed third at 831 (-21).
