Raider Men Compete at Nebraska and Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D./LINCOLN, Neb. – The Raider men's track and field team split up this weekend, competing at both the Graduate Classic in Lincoln and the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton.

MOUNT MARTY INVITE
Sophomore Carson Van Sickle continued to lead the Red Raiders in the middle distances, earning a first-place finish in the 800 meters at the Mt. Marty Invite with a time of 1:54.25, hitting the NAIA provisional mark. Van Sickle also anchored the 4x800-meter relay, helping the Red Raiders to a runner-up finish.

In the hurdles, Northwestern turned in a pair of podium performances. Kalarga Mukhtar placed second in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.72. He was joined by teammate Jacob Berggren, who finished third in the same event.

Relay success continued to be a strength for Northwestern, as the 4x800-meter relay recorded a second-place finish overall with a time of 8:31.46.

GRADUATE CLASSIC
Northwestern also sent a group to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Graduate Classic, hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Braden Kalvelage starred with an indoor PR of 7.55 in the long jump, winning the event. He then continued his successful weekend with a winning time in the 200m, crossing the finish in 21.67.

The 4x400m team of Grant Palmer, Connor Slaba, Aziah Ashley, and Mike Rodriguez placed third behind Nebraska and Northern Colorado with a mark of 3:21.24.

Others to compete were Palmer (16th; 7.08), Vance Hayenga-Johnson (18th; 7.10), and Slaba (22nd; 7.14) in the 60m, Hayenga-Johnson in the 200m (18th; 22.76), and Caleb Tofteland in the 3K (13th; 8:46.37).

Up Next: Northwestern will travel to Storm Lake next weekend for the Dennis Young Indoor Classic.
