Raiders’ Alessandrini Honored for Defensive Effort

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern junior goalkeeper Edoardo Alessandrini has been voted as the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Hauff Mid-America Sports.

Alessandrini collected a win and a draw on the weekend, posting a 1.00 goals against average. He collected three saves in a shutout win over Bethel, including a defensive stand on a penalty kick in the first half.

In three starts this season, Alessandrini has a 2-0-1 record, two shutouts, and a 0.67 goals against average.

"Edoardo has already established himself as a very important player for our team this season," said head coach Dan Swier. "He is making game-changing saves, leading from the back, and even saved a penalty against Bethel to maintain a 1-0 lead on Saturday."

The Raiders are back in action this weekend, facing Graceland (Iowa) and Avila (Mo.) on the road.
