Darnold Named to Academic All-America Second Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Northwestern men's soccer student-athlete Drew Darnold has been selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Second Team, the organization's office announced today.

Darnold, a sophomore accounting major from Omaha, Nebraska, posted an impressive tally of 15 goals, three assists, and 33 points, ranking second in the GPAC in goals and third in points. He was also named a First Team All-GPAC selection, secured the title of GPAC Offensive Player of the Week three times, and was once the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week.

"This is an incredible honor, only the fifth time in our program's history that a men's soccer player has been an Academic All-American," head coach Dan Swier said. "Drew has a brilliant mind, and applies himself in the classroom. He has a bright future in whatever career he finds himself in. We also had the privilege of seeing his sharp mind create a competitive advantage on the field this season. His 15 goals were key to our success and winning the GPAC title."

He becomes the first Red Raider men's soccer player since Connor Tupper in 2018 to receive Academic All-America distinction.

Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions.
