Men’s Soccer Lands Five Athletes on Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Five Northwestern men's soccer student-athletes have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Edoardo Alessandrini, Drew Darnold, Gonzalo Domingo, Daniel Lindahl, and Juan Miranda are Northwestern's honorees, receiving accolades for their work on the pitch and in the classroom.

Alessandrini, a junior political science major from Rome, Italy, was a First-Team All-GPAC selection in his first year with the Raiders. He led the GPAC in goals against average (0.78), secured 12 wins in goal, and collected 46 saves in net.

Darnold, a sophomore accounting major from Omaha, Nebraska, had a breakout season, scoring 15 goals and dishing out three assists. His goals total was second in the conference, and his 33 points was good for third in the GPAC. The First Team All-GPAC selection netted two hat tricks on the year as part of four multi-goal performances. He was named GPAC Offensive Player of the Week three times and was once named NAIA Offensive Player of the Week.

Domingo, a sophomore software engineering major from Santiago de Compostela, Spain, started 15 games this season, dishing out four assists on the year. He had 20 shot attempts with nine on goal from his defensive position, totaling 1,254 minutes played.

Lindahl, a sophomore political science major from Stockholm, Sweden, made an impact in his first season as a starter. The forward scored four goals and dished out four assists on the year, highlighted by his game-winning goal in the 71st minute at Midland to clinch the GPAC regular season title.

Miranda, a sophomore marketing major from San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, earned Second Team All-GPAC honors this season. He was a catalyst for the offense, dishing out four assists and being the primary corner kick distributor. Miranda scored his first career goal in Northwestern's second game of the season, a win over Bethel (Kan.).

Alessandrini and Darnold will be placed among the nominees for CSC Academic All-America teams, voted on by members of the organization. Academic All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, December 16.
