Northwestern Women Land CSC Academic Awards

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Northwestern women's track and field student-athletes Emma Blum, Abby Ervin, Emma Haley, Savonne Sterk, and Jacie Vander Waal have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, the CSC office announced today.

The 2025 GPAC Indoor 400m Champion, Blum had a career year, setting indoor school records in the 200m and oversized 200m. The junior marketing major from Bennington, Nebraska qualified for the NAIA Championships in both the indoor and outdoor 400m and was an all-conference selection. Blum earns CSC Academic All-District honors for the second year in a row.

A member of the cross country and track teams at Northwestern, Ervin earned indoor all-conference marks in the 4x800 and set PRs in the cross country 6K (24:28.4), 3000m (12:20.26), and 1000m (3:11.99) this season. A senior exercise science major from Jewell, Iowa, Ervin earns her first CSC Academic All-District selection.

A senior nursing major from Alton, Iowa, Haley impressed on both the cross country course and on the track. She hit a PR in the 3000m at the GPAC Indoor Championships, earning all-conference honors in the indoor 3K, indoor 5K, and outdoor steeplechase. In the fall, Haley posted a 20^th-place finish at the GPAC Cross Country Championships.

Receiving CSC Academic All-District honors for the second straight year, Sterk was an all-conference finisher in the indoor 4x800, also running the 400m and 800m during the indoor season. A senior nursing major from Lynden, Washington, Sterk was also a CSC Academic All-District selection after the volleyball season.

After posting a top-10 finish at the NAIA Outdoor Championships, Vander Waal closed her career as a four-time NAIA Championships qualifier. The 2023 All-American and senior biology major from Sioux Center, Iowa reached a PR leap of 1.72m at the Wayne State Classic, which was the fifth-best high jump in the NAIA this season.

The CSC Academic All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, July 15.
