Perfect Pyramids Propel Cheer at Nationals

Ypsilanti, Mich. - With perfect pyramids in both the prelims and the finals, the Raider competitive cheer team takes sixth for the second year in a row with an overall score of 89.70.

"They work so hard for each other, I'm just so proud and I can't ask for anything else," expressed head coach Taylor Decker. "Everyone encourages one another, we're just one big family."

During Friday's preliminary round, the Raiders scored an 83.50 with perfect pyramids which placed them eighth overall, right in the middle of the pack headed to Saturday's finals. Northwestern bounced back with strong tumbling and more perfect pyramids in the finals to score a 90.77, enough to jump them two spots to finish sixth with an 89.70 final score. The final placement would match the outcome from the 2024 Cheer Nationals when the Raiders scored 88.55.

It would be a record-breaking year in Ypsilanti as both runner-ups Xavier University and champions Saint Ambrose would break the record for highest score in NAIA history.
