Northwestern Adds Schussman to Men’s Soccer Staff

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern men's soccer head coach Dan Swier has announced the addition of Alex Schussman as its new assistant coach.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to return to Northwestern as a coach," Schussman commented. "My time as a student-athlete had a large impact on my life, and I hope to create a similar experience for current and future players."

Schussman played four years in the Raider soccer program, appearing in 71 matches and starting each match in his junior and senior seasons. In his time on the pitch, he netted 18 goals with eight assists and over 2,500 minutes played. While Schussman was at Northwestern, the Raiders posted a record of 41-31-3, finishing in the top-three of the GPAC twice.

"I am extremely pleased that Alex has accepted the offer to be the next assistant coach of Raider men's soccer," head coach Dan Swier said. "As an alumnus of Northwestern and this program, he understands what it means to compete at a high level. He will use his skills as a coach to help our athletes realize their potential, both on and off the field. It is a unique opportunity we have at Northwestern to be Christian mentors for our athletes, and Alex is looking forward to that opportunity."

Since graduating from Northwestern in 2019, Schussman has worked in various roles at First National Bank in his hometown of Bemidji, Minnesota. He holds a degree in sport management, also obtaining a minor in coaching.
