Raiders Compete on the Blue Oval at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Raiders sent three relays and one individual to the Blue Oval to compete for personal bests and national marks.

The first event on the track for Northwestern was the women's 4x800m relay on Thursday afternoon. Starting off strong would be distance specialist Emily Haverdink handing off to Savonne Sterk for a blazing second leg. She handed off to fellow mid-distance runner Abby Ervin to keep the baton moving fast through the third second of the race. Caitlin Jacobsma would hold down the anchor position and cross the line bringing the team in 11th place overall. Their final time of 9:32:64 would barely miss the NAIA provisional mark of 9:32.00

Friday morning, the women's 4x100m relay would be back from their record setting run on Wednesday hoping to further lower that mark. They would run 48.94, their second best time this season, on their way to securing 20th place in the field. That quartet would be the same runners and order of Grace Hendrickson, Marissa Hackman, Caitlin Ostbye, and Emma Blum. Friday afternoon, Blum, Sterk, and Ostbye would be back again, this time joined by Kennedy Kramer, to attack the 4x400m relay. The week prior they had hit the NAIA Provisonal mark with their time of 3:55.06, and would aim for the NAIA Auto mark of 3:55.00. The squad would run 2:55.74 for the second best time this season, re-hitting the NAIA provisional mark.

Saturday morning would host the DMR for the women bright and early. The 1200m leg of the race would be done by Jacobsma, coming back from her 4x800m relay a couple days prior. Kramer would be back as well for the 400m leg of the race, back from her 4x400m race just 17 hours prior. She would hand of to Ervin for the 800m leg, and finishing off the DMR would be Haverdink into the 1600m slot. The team would run 12:28.48 for a 2nd place finish by mere seconds. The final women's event on Saturday was the javelin throw. Throwing specialist Jordan Bjork would hit a what looked like a PR throw in warmups, but be unable to replicate the results again. She would hit a final distance of 33.26m and climb to 18th place overall.
