Northwestern to Host Doane in 2023 Home Opener

The Red Raiders are 6-1 under McCarty in home openers

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The top-ranked National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Northwestern College football team (2-0, 1-0 GPAC) will play in front of the home crowd for the first time this season when the Doane University Tigers (0-3, 0-2 GPAC) come to Korver Field at De Valois Stadium on Saturday. NWC NOTABLES
  • NWC will play at home for the first time this season when they welcome Doane to De Valois Stadium on Saturday.
  • The Red Raiders are 6-1 under McCarty in home openers, winners of six-straight.
  • Jalyn Gramstad was tabbed the GPAC Offensive Player of the Week for leading the Red Raiders to the 27-24 upset overtime win at Drake; marking back-to-back weeks the Red Raiders have won the weekly offensive award.
  • Michael Storey passed former teammate Cade Moser in the first half of the Drake game for second-most receptions in NWC program history.
  • NWC leads the GPAC in total offense (491.5 yards per game) and rushing offense (266.0 yards per game).
  • The Raiders scored 10 touchdowns this season: six rushing and four passing.
  • Northwestern holds the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA for the second-straight poll, receiving all 18 of the first-place votes.

GPAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
  • Junior quarterback Jalyn Gramstad was named the Week 2 GPAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts at Drake.
  • He accounted for 338 total yards, being over 90% of Northwestern's total yardage.
  • He threw one passing touchdown to Konner McQuillan (Week 1 Offensive POW) that led to the 2-pt conversion that tied the game in the fourth quarter.
  • On the night, he was 25-for-35 through the air with the one score, having 224 yards.
  • On the ground, Gramstad notched his fourth-career 100-yard rushing game with 114 yards on 19 carries.
BEN EGLI STEPS UP
  • Sophomore linebacker recorded a new career-high 11 tackles (eight solo) in the win at Drake to lead all tacklers.
  • He helped the Red Raider defense to hold the Bulldogs to just 100 total yards on the ground.
NAIA COACHES' POLL
  • In the first regular season poll, three GPAC teams continue to be ranked in the top-25: Northwestern (No. 1), Morningside (No. 3), and Dordt (No. 19).
  • Midland picked up 10 votes in the poll.
  • The preseason poll marks the 26th-straight week NWC has been ranked inside the top-5, dating back to May 17, 2021.
  • It's now 66th-straight week the Red Raiders have been ranked inside the top-25.
WEATHER FORECAST
  • Saturday's forecast in Orange City calls for sunny skies with a high in the mid-70s.
  • Winds are expected to be North-Northwest between 5-10mph.

  • NWC leads the all-time series 23-15, dating back to the 1982 season.
  • The Raiders have a 12-6-2 record at home against Doane.
