Northwestern Falls to Concordia to Conclude Regular Season

Red Raiders will be the No. 5-seed at the GPAC tournament this weekend

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In what proved to be a battle for the No. 4-seed in the upcoming Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tournament, the Northwestern College men's tennis team (9-9, 3-3 GPAC) fell to the Bulldogs of Concordia University (Neb.) (11-8, 3-3 GPAC) at the NWC Tennis Courts Monday afternoon.

The Bulldogs would take the doubles points, picking up victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Northwestern's Brian VandenBerg (Sr., Mason City, Iowa) and Arthur Vincente (Fr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) would tally a 6-4 win at No. 2, tallying their ninth win as a duo this season (9-6) with all being in the No. 2 slot.

In singles play, David Bomgaars (So., Aurora, Colo.) picked up his ninth win of the season (9-9) with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Concordia's Santiago Abadia. He improves to 8-7 on the year in the No. 2 slot.

VandenBerg put up a valiant fight at No. 1 but fell 7-5, 6-4 to CUNE's Hugo Fuentes.

Up Next: The Raiders will be the No. 5-seed at the GPAC tournament that is to played this weekend on Friday-Saturday, April 28-29 at the Fremont YMCA in Fremont, Neb.
