Men’s Tennis Opens Season at GPAC Individual Tournament

SEWARD, Neb. – The Northwestern tennis teams headed to the GPAC Individual Tournament this weekend, as singles and doubles competed at the annual event.

In singles, Samy Khiyara made his mark, advancing to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the round of 16 and a 5-7, 7-5, 10-5 win in the quarterfinals. Andres Horobeanu was another standout, reaching the flight final, highlighted by a gritty win in the semifinals, 7-5, 7-6 (3). Jordan Shaffer also collected two singles wins.

The doubles squad of David Garces and Horobeanu won two matches, while Khiyara and Arthur Vicente battled to the final where they fell 6-3.
