Fast Course Leads to 13 PRs Against Stiff Competition

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – The new 6K distance for the women doesn't seem like it's going anywhere anytime soon, so the women decided it best to embrace it. This week at Briar Cliff, a course known for being fast, the women managed 13 PRs over the longer distance.

"It just goes to show the mindset of our ladies. They want to race fast, so they train for it and by the time race day comes up, all that's left is to execute," said head coach Scott Bahrke. "This will be the site for the GPAC Championships so it's great to see the potential the ladies have. We just have to be able to capitalize on the experience they gained this week and put it towards the conference meet."

First across the line for the Raiders was sophomore standout Emily Haverdink in the first PR, coming across in 22:59, nearly 30 seconds faster than last year. Second for the women was Caitlin Alberts, continuing to run like a veteran, in the second PR, now down to 24:14. Third for the second meet in a row, Brielle Engelmann would pull the next PR, over a minute faster. Ellie Zeutenhorst, back from taking a few weeks off would come in fourth for the Raiders, followed by Megan Bosch in fifth, separated by only a single second. Both Zeutenhorst and Bosch also completed PRs. Freshman Lili Nelson would switch the finishing order from the previous meet to take sixth, with Allie Hough taking seventh, both in PR times.

Finishing outside of the top seven, but still finishing in PR times were Abby Ervin, Julia Fehr, Morgan Ritz, Makayla Johnson, Bree Van Genderen, Kylee Britt, and Emma Wilson.

Up Next: The Raider men and women will take another week off from racing to come back on October 21. They will travel to Ashland, Nebraska for the NAIA Classic. The Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship will be a couple weeks after, back in Sioux City.
