DES MOINES, Iowa – On Friday, April 29, The Northwestern College men's track and field team traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Viking Classic, hosted by Grand View University. This was the last meet for the team before heading to the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Championships next weekend, May 6-7, in Crete, Neb.
The Raiders saw two first place finishes on the day.
Ben Thelander earned first place in javelin with a mark of 49.55m.
Trey Engelmann finished with a time of 1:58.92 to take home first place in the 800m run.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Braden Jahn took home a third place finish in the 200m dash with a time 23.36. Cade Pedersen finished out the top-8 with a time of 24.15.
- The Raiders had two top-five finishes in the 800m run. Trey Engelmann took first place with a time of 1:58.92 while Peyton Brasser finished fourth with a time of 2:00.23.
- Carter Brouwer earned a third placed finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.20.
- Two Raiders placed in the top-five in the 1500m run. Ian Wiersma took home a second-place finish with a time of 4:04.77, while Dawson Jacobsma finished fifth with a time of 4:14.19. The Raiders had four of the top nine runners in the 1500m run.
- In triple jump, Nikko Helderop finished fourth with a mark of 12.86m.
- Aaron Shepard tied for fourth with a mark of 1.85m in high jump. Thelander finished tied for sixth with the same mark of 1.85m.
- The Raiders saw three top-ften finishes in javelin. With a mark of 49.55m Thelander took home first place, while Bryce Paulsen finished fifth with a mark of 41.98. Aaron Eckmann rounded out the top-10 with a throw of 35.34m.
- William Minnick finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.54m.
- Benn Yol finished sixth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.96.
- Kyler Vander Velde finished in the top-8 in the 100m dash with a time of 10.87.
Up Next: The Raiders will travel to Crete, Neb. to compete in the GPAC Outdoor Championships on May 6-7.
