SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College men's track and field team traveled to Sioux City to compete in the 57
th annual Sioux City Relays. The Raiders earned two first-place finishes as
Lorenzo Jones took first-place in triple jump, while
James Gilbert Jr. took first-place in long jump.
Gilbert's (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) first-place leap of 7.21m hit the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) "B" mark for the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Championships.
Joining Gilbert on the top of the medal stand is fellow high school teammate Jones (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Edgewater). Jones won the triple jump with a mark of 14.24 meters, just .11 off the NAIA "B" mark himself.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Ben Yol placed 5th in the 400m Hurdles (1:04.91).
- Lorenzo Jones took home first in triple jump (14.24m), with Nikko Helderop finishing 4th (12.10m)
- Aaron Shepard took home third in high jump with a mark of 1.88m.
- James Gilbert Jr. finished 4th in the 100m dash (11.02).
- Three raiders finished in the top 5 in long jump: James Gilbert Jr. took home first in with a mark of 7.21m, while Dexter Wiese took home 3rd (6.35m) and Lorenzo Jones finished 5th (6.14m).
- Northwestern's 4x200 relay team - Pfaffle, Palmer, Pedersen, post - placed 4rd (1:34.62)
- Four raiders went 2-3-4-5 in the 5000m run; Ian Wiersma took home second (15:49.00), Levi Cross took home third (15:55.08), while Alex Nonhof (16:40.56) and Dawson Jacobsma (16:43.38) placed 4th and 5th, respectively.
- Both of Northwestern's 4x100m teams placed in the top-5. Strand, Vander Velde, Jahn, Davies - took home second, while Pfaffle, Palmer, Pedersen, Post- placed 4th.
- Northwestern's 4x400 relay team- Gilbert, Oostra, Davies, Pryor- placed 2rd (3:20.24)
