SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Northwestern men's track and field team competed in the Dordt University Outdoor Invite on Saturday over in Sioux Center.
Two raiders took home first place finishes;
Joseph Kunert (Jr., Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) finished 1
st in the 3000m steeple chase while
Lorenzo Jones (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) took first in the triple jump. Jones' jump hit the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) provisional mark for the 2022 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
In the triple jump, the Raiders took four of the top-5 spots. Jones,
James Gilbert Jr.,
Dexter Wiese and
Nikko Hederop all placed in the top-5.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- James Gilbert Jr. took second-place in the 200m (22.72).
- Daniel Strand placed 4th in the 400m (11.13).
- In the 400m, the Raiders had two top-5 finishes. Mitch Oostra took home second-place (50.58), followed by Wyatt Pryor who finished 5th (51.41).
- In the 800m, Peyton Brasser finished 5th (1:59.98).
- Bryce Paulsen took home 3rd in the 400m Hurdles (56.00).
- Joseph Kunert took home a first-place finish in the 3000m steeple chase (10:27.21).
- Northwestern's 4x400m relay team – Gilbert, Oostra, Engelmann, Pryor – placed 2nd with a time of 3:22.88
- Two Raiders finished in the top-5 in high jump. Aaron Shepard tied for second place (1.85m) while Noah vanDonkersgoed finished 5th (1.80m)
- Bryce Paulsen (3.20m) and Ben Thelander (3.05m) took third and fourth, respectively, in pole vault.
- 4 raiders placed in the top 5 in triple jump. Lorenzo Jones took home first place with a mark of 14.53m while Gilbert took home second with a mark of 13.91m. Dexter Wiese (12.32m) and Nikko Hederop (12.12m) rounded out the top 5 with 4th and 5th place finishes.
- William Minnick (13.13m) placed 5th in shot put
- Joe Callahan (40.89m) took home second place in discus.
- Joe Callahan (43.19m) and William Minnick (43.19m) placed 3rd and 4th, respectively in hammer.
- Ben Thelander (51.71m) took home second place in Javelin.
Up Next: The Raiders will head to Sioux City for the Sioux City Relays on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9.
