Men's Basketball At Morningside Tuesday Night

Both teams have just one loss so far this season

Game Time... Northwestern College meets up with Morningside for a GPAC men's basketball showdown between a pair of one-loss teams. Tip-off for Tuesday night, Nov. 24, is scheduled for 8pm. Northwestern has won two straight and is 2-1 in conference play, 4-1 overall; Morningside is 1-1 in the GPAC, 5-1 overall.

All-Time...Tuesday's game between the two foes will be the 46th in the rivalry with Northwestern owning a 23-22 all-time lead. Morningside has the edge of late, however, winning five straight and seven of its last eight against Northwestern. Last year, the Mustangs swept the series, winning 98-69 in Sioux City and 96-71 in Orange City.

The Mustangs have won three straight heading into Tuesday night's game against Northwestern, defeating Yellowstone Christian, Carroll (Mont.) and Mount Marty. Last time out, they earned a 10-point, 68-58 win at home against the Lancers for their first win in conference action. Morningside's lone setback was an 85-73 road loss at Jamestown.

Sykes became the head of the Mustangs' program in January of the 2003-04 season. Now in his 17th year, Sykes owns a 69% win percentage which puts him first all-time in program history. He is a six-time GPAC Coach of the Year, including the last two seasons. Sykes led last year's team to the GPAC Regular Season title and a first round win over College of the Ozarks (Mo.) at the NAIA D-II National Championship. One starter, eight players return from the 2019-20 team.

Wins over the University of Jamestown and Midland last week put Northwestern with a 2-1 conference record. 4-1 overall. Their only loss this season is to Concordia, 77-74, in Seward, Neb.
