Schubert, Schnell Highlight Game Two Win

Amber Schubert hit two home runs and Emma Schnell pitched a four-hitter in leading Northwestern to a 12-2, five-inning win over Doane in game two of a GPAC doubleheader played today in Crete, Neb. The win snaps a seven-game losing skid and improves Head Coach Shane Bouman's squad to 1-3 in the GPAC, 8-13 overall. Northwestern dropped game one in a pitchers dual, 2-0.

Game One:  Josie Schnakenberg (8-7) outdueled Red Raider starter Schnell and relief pitcher Sydnee Isom in a 2-0 game one win. All the runs were accounted for in the third inning off three hits as Erin Herrera drove in one with an RBI single and Blair Edeal had an RBI groundout.

The teams combined for nine hits, five for Doane, four by Northwestern. Saige Pennel led Bouman's squad with a double and Jennifer Boeve added two singles. Jordan Van Roy went 2-for-3 with a triple to lead Doane.

Schnell (4-7) pitched the first four innings for the Red Raiders, giving up four hits and two runs. Isom gave up only one hit in two scoreless innings of relief.

Schnakenberg struck out five and did not give up a walk in the full seven innings.

Game Two:  Red Raider bats came alive in game two, totaling 10 hits, led by Schubert with her first two home runs of the season. The senior drove in three and scored three. Madison Beaver went 2-for-2 with three runs and Saige Pennel added two hits as well. Bri Giordano added a three-run home run in the fourth inning as the Red Raiders belted a season-high three home runs in one game.

Schnell, now 5-7 on the year, allowed four hits and two runs in five innings. Schnakenberg (8-8) took the loss, giving up five hits and five runs in 2.1 innings.

Northwestern scored at least one run in each of the first four innings, opening up a 3-0 lead after Schubert's first dinger, a two-run shot in the first. The Red Raiders added a run in the second, two more in the third and broke the game open with six in the fourth. Devin Dreesen and Madison Beaver had RBI singles and Giordano added her three-run shot.
