Northwestern College swept Hastings in a conference softball doubleheader, 6-0 and 8-2, played this afternoon in Hastings, Neb. The Red Raiders push their record to 3-3 in the GPAC, 10-13 overall.
Samantha Ubben (W: 2-3) blanked Hastings in game one, pitching her shutout of the season. The sophomore allowed four hits, walked two and struck out five in seven full innings.
The Red Raiders totaled 11 hits, led by
Madison Beaver and
Jordyn Kramer with three hits each. Both players scored one run and drove in one.
Amber Schubert went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and scored two runs, hitting her third home run of the season.
Devin Dreesen added one hit, a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Northwestern opened the games scoring with a two-run home run by Schubert in the third inning. Coach
Shane Bouman's squad plated three more in the fifth, scoring two off a single by Dreesen and another run coming in after a single by Beaver. The Red Raiders final run cam on a Kramer RBI single in the seventh.
Sydnee Isom (2-2) pitched four solid innings and earned her second win of the season in leading Northwestern to its 8-2 win in game two. The freshman allowed just three hits and struck out two over the final four innings.
Emma Schnell did not give up a hit over the first three innings, walking two and striking out three.
Beaver once again led the Red Raiders at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
Jennifer Boeve and Dreesen accounted for two hits each; Dreesen totaling three RBIs and Boeve scoring two runs. Schubert drove in two and went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Northwestern scored two in the top of the first on a squeeze bunt by Schubert and groundout by Dreesen. Hastings came back to tie it with a run in both the third and fourth innings but the Red Raiders broke the game open with a two-run fifth, one more in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Sarah Barger took the loss for Hastings, giving up all 13 hits and eight runs, six earned, in the full seven innings. Alyssa Carter, Emily Arp and Hannah Langer had one hit each, all singles.
