The Northwestern men's soccer program is pleased to announce the first three signings of the 2017 recruiting class. Derek Zevenbergen, Andrew Unruh and Peyton Scott (all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota) have signed letters of intent to attend Northwestern this fall. All three attend Sioux Falls Christian High School where they won a state championship in 2015.

Zevenbergen, the son of Chad and Jan, is a 5-10 midfielder and scored 9 goals and assisted 9 others during his senior campaign, where he captained the Chargers to a 12-2 record and a 3rdplace finish in the state. He is a 4-year letter winner and achieved 1st team all-state status this past fall. Zevenbergen plans to major in Exercise Science (Pre-Physical Therapy) at Northwestern.

Andrew Unruh, the son of Tim and Jen, is a 5-11 goalkeeper and wing player. As a goalkeeper for the Chargers last fall he tallied 9 shut-outs on the way to their 3rd place finish in the state. During his junior year Unruh was a 1st team all-state selection during his team's 15-0 state championship run. Unruh plans to major in either Biology or Pre-Law at Northwestern.

Scott, the son of Ken and Alison, is a 6-4 back line player and was a 1st team all-state performer this past fall. As a mainstay on the back line in recent years, he was an integral part of the team's 6 shut-outs and 9 goals allowed during their state championship season in 2015 and 9 more shut-outs this past fall. Peyton will be the third member of his family to be a Red Raider soccer player as he joins his older sister and brother, Regan Scott and Matt Scott at Northwestern.
All three of these young men have been club teammates at the prestigious Dakota Alliance Soccer Club since they were youth players. They have won multiple state cup championships in South Dakota and have competed at Club Regionals.
When asked to share his thoughts on the signings Coach Swier had this to say, "We are delighted to announce that these three young men will be attending Northwestern in the fall. Each year we are looking for student-athletes who fit multiple criteria, such as high character, good skill, and strong academics, among other things. All three of these guys seem to fulfill these criteria! We are excited to see how they impact both our team dynamic and our campus community."
