Northwestern to Begin Construction on Stadium Renovation

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College has announced plans for a major renovation of its on-campus stadium, with construction set to begin this fall.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the project will be held at the west entrance of the football stadium on Friday, Oct. 2, at 4:30 p.m. A dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Colenbrander Plaza will be held simultaneously.

In partnership with Ampere Design and Tarkett Sports, Northwestern will make a number of facility improvements designed to enhance the Raider fan experience. The project will expand and improve restroom facilities, create a new concessions and merchandise area, add a brick façade and press box elevator at the west entrance, install new fencing and a sound system, and create a VIP lounge.

"I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of Northwestern College alumni, parents and friends from across the country as well as the local business community and other community partners." Northwestern President Greg Christy said. "Their standout support has allowed us to come within several hundred thousand dollars of this $10.9 million stadium renovation in only nine months, allowing us to begin this project a year earlier than we anticipated."

Additional improvements inside the stadium will include a new turf playing surface and track surface, along with a new runway on the home side for a newly created track finish line. A new Daktronics videoboard, Raider Zone fan seating and limited chairback seating will also be added, while the parking lot on the west side of the stadium will be resurfaced and redesigned.

"The on-campus stadium is a staple of the Orange City community with both high schools, recreation department, community, and the college all using the facility throughout the year," said Vice President for Athletics Tony Hoops. "This renovation will create a premier stadium experience for our fans to enjoy and participants to compete. We are incredibly blessed to have a supportive community that sees the value of giving back to the youth of our community."

The stadium renovation is part of Northwestern's ongoing investment in its athletic facilities and the fan experience. The project has an anticipated completion date of Fall 2027.

Fans can expect exterior construction activity throughout the fall season. More information regarding the project's impact on football game-day operations for the 2026 season will be announced at a later date.
