Northwestern, War Eagle Conference Partner for Leadership Summit

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern College welcomed more than 90 high school students to campus Wednesday for the annual War Eagle Leadership Summit.

Northwestern partnered with Benjamin Bouza of West Sioux and Lonnie Boekhout of MMCRU to plan the annual event, which welcomed eight students from each high school in the conference.

The Northwestern Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) developed and led breakout sessions focused on integrity, servant leadership, teamwork, and the NAIA Champions of Character core values. Northwestern staff members Korbyn Gramstad, Caden Kleinwolterink, Molly Schany, Chris Yaw, Dr. Erica Vonk, and members of the admissions team also led sessions on leadership and the college recruitment process.

"It was an exciting day to welcome our future leaders to Northwestern for the War Eagle Leadership Summit," Vice President for Athletics Tony Hoops said. "I am grateful for the work of our Northwestern staff members, SALT members, and the War Eagle Conference in creating an opportunity for these students to develop their leadership skills and learn from one another."

Sessions were held in the Den Hartog Athletic Complex and the Rowenhorst Student Center before students concluded the day with a meal at The Caf.

Members of the War Eagle Conference include South O'Brien, Remsen St. Mary's, George-Little Rock, Hinton, West Sioux, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Akron-Westfield, MMCRU, Gehlen Catholic, Trinity Christian, and Harris-Lake Park.
