Raiders Get First Win on the Road

WINFIELD, Kan. — Northwestern College (1-1-0) secured a 3-1 victory over Southwestern College (0-3-0) on Thursday at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. The Red Raiders notched all three of their goals in the second half to overcome a scoreless first half. 
 
The opening period saw Northwestern and Southwestern engage in a scoreless contest, with both teams creating opportunities but unable to capitalize. The Raiders' Camryn Wilkinson attempted an early shot in the 11th minute, which went high, while Ella Top made a crucial save against a Moundbuilders shot at the 13-minute mark. Southwestern earned multiple corner kicks, but the home team's attempts failed to find the net. Northwestern's Hailey Henson had a shot that was saved defensively in the 34th minute. The period concluded with the score tied at 0-0, as both defenses held firm. 
 
The Raiders took the lead early in the second period with a goal by Adah Baron in the 47th minute, assisted by Mya Cole. The Moundbuilders quickly responded, leveling the score in the 50th minute. Northwestern regained the lead at the 69th minute with a goal from Aliza Edwards, again assisted by Mya Cole. Lydia Timm then extended the Raiders' lead to 3-1 in the 79th minute. Southwestern missed a crucial penalty kick in the 71st minute, saved by Ella Top, which could have tied the match. A red card was issued to the Moundbuilders in the 78th minute, further impacting the host's chances.
