Wilkinson’s Goal Pushes Raiders Past Bethel

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – The Red Raider women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Bethel (Kan.) on Saturday morning to move to 2-0 on the weekend. The Red Raiders' defense held the Threshers to just two shots on goal, earning a shutout in the process.

The match began with both teams testing the defenses early on. Hannah Gordon took an initial shot wide left at the 2:16 mark, followed by Lucy Staines' attempt that went high. Bethel's Regina Mendoza's shot at 7:33 was saved by Ella Top, maintaining the scoreline. Northwestern continued to press with multiple shots, including three from Aliza Edwards, but all were either off-target or blocked. Despite a corner kick opportunity by Mya Cole at 35:50, the period concluded with neither team finding the back of the net, ending in a scoreless draw at halftime.

Wilkinson broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, notching her first goal of the season off a corner kick assist from Cole. The Raiders' offense tested Bethel's defense with multiple shots, including saves on attempts by Gordon and Edwards. Bethel's efforts to equalize included a shot by Malayasia Larque that hit the crossbar in the 83rd minute, but Northwestern maintained their lead to close out the match.
