Raiders Lose a Tight Match in Pella

PELLA, IOWA - Northwestern fell to Central (IA) 4-3 on Friday. Northwestern captured singles victories at the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 positions, but Central (IA) secured the match by winning two of the three doubles contests.

Northwestern fell short in the doubles point after Central (IA) secured wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney and Claire Smock triumphed over Madalyn Kolb and Bryn Higginbotham, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. Central (IA) clinched the doubles point with Emily Blom and Sidney Peterson's 6-2 victory against Hannah Beckloff and Alloree Else at No. 3 doubles. Northwestern's Matilde Di Martino and Pietra Ferreira provided a bright spot with a 6-2 win over Emma Murphy and Lauren Gano at No. 1 doubles.

In singles, Northwestern made a strong start as Matilde Di Martino defeated Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Pietra Ferreira followed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lauren Gano at No. 2 singles, giving the Raiders a 2-1 lead. Alloree Else extended the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Emma Murphy at No. 3 singles.

Central (IA) responded with a decisive performance in the remaining singles matches. Emily Blom took a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Madalyn Kolb at No. 4 singles. Sidney Peterson leveled the overall score with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Bryn Higginbotham at No. 5 singles. The Dutch clinched the match as Rebekah Downs secured a 6-0, 6-4 win over Hannah Beckloff at No. 6 singles, finalizing the dual score at 4-3 in favor of Central (IA).
