Raiders Secure Win at Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Red Raider men's basketball team rolled to a 98-90 victory over the Briar Cliff Chargers on Wednesday night, thanks to their impressive shooting from beyond the arc, sinking 12 of 20 attempts.

The game opened with a bang as Kaleb Booth drained a three-pointer just nine seconds in. The Raiders maintained their momentum with a flurry of outside shots and powerful plays in the paint, racking up 22 points inside. Jalen Langsy and Brennan Reid were instrumental, each adding timely triples and assists, while Jesse Van Kalsbeek dominated in the paint with a slew of made shots and free throws.

Capitalizing on Briar Cliff's turnovers, Northwestern converted them into nine points and outpaced the Chargers with five second-chance points. The Raiders' bench chipped in with 10 points, showcasing their depth. By halftime, Northwestern held a steady 48-42 lead, setting the stage for an exciting second half.

In the second half, the Raiders maintained their offensive prowess, with Reid making an impact with a second-chance bucket and a trey that kept the crowd on their toes. Van Kalsbeek continued to shine in the paint, consistently delivering with baskets and free throws, including a pivotal three-point play at 7:26.

Northwestern's defense held firm with timely rebounds and a significant block by Carter Van Hulzen, stifling the Chargers' attempts to close the gap. With key shots from Booth and Langsy, the Raiders extended their lead, wrapping up the game at 98-90 after a thrilling second half.

  • Jesse Van Kalsbeek led Northwestern with 31 points and 10 rebounds, also going 7-for-10 from the stripe.
  • Jalen Langsy scored 24 points, knocking down four threes.
  • Langsy now holds the Northwestern record for three-pointers by a sophomore.
