Van Kalsbeek’s 36-Point Effort Powers Raiders to Road Win

YANKTON, S.D. – Northwestern split the season series with Mount Marty, defeating the Lancers 76-66 on Saturday at Cimpl Arena. The Red Raiders sealed the win with a sharp shooting percentage of 54.9% and a strong push in the second half, at one point leading by 14 points.

The game kicked off with Northwestern's offense firing on all cylinders, exchanging baskets with Mount Marty early on. Jalen Langsy and Jesse Van Kalsbeek led the charge with steady scoring in the paint. Midway through the half, a trey from Van Kalsbeek stretched the lead to 10 points at 8:35. Mount Marty fought back with accurate shooting from downtown and at the charity stripe, but the Red Raiders stayed poised. Isaac Cordes nailed a timely triple to help Northwestern end the half with a narrow 33-31 lead.

Starting the second half, Northwestern extended their advantage, thanks to Van Kalsbeek's key free throws and layup, making it 38-33. Manny Hammonds kept the momentum going with a three-pointer, assisted by Brennan Reid. The Raiders' defense was relentless, grabbing a 16-8 edge on the boards and holding Mount Marty's shooting in check.

As the half unfolded, Northwestern widened their lead further with contributions from Kaleb Booth and Carter Van Hulzen. The defense turned up the heat, forcing Mount Marty into mistakes and missed shots. By the halfway mark, the Red Raiders had built their biggest lead of the game at 14 points.

In the final minutes, Northwestern kept their grip on the game through steady free throw shooting from Van Kalsbeek, who was solid at the line. The Raiders wrapped up the half leading 76-66, firmly in control and finishing strong.
