Late Surge Not Enough as Raiders Fall at Home

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – In a nail-biting contest at the Bultman Center, Northwestern narrowly fell to Mount Marty with a final score of 83-78 on Wednesday. Despite shooting an impressive 51.7% from the field and recording 19 assists, the Red Raiders couldn't hold off a second-half surge by the Lancers.

Northwestern kicked off the first half with determination, quickly taking a 4-2 lead thanks to a slam dunk by Jesse Van Kalsbeek. The home team kept up the pressure with smart ball movement, highlighted by Brennan Reid's early layup after a steal by Kaleb Booth. Jalen Langsy's three-pointer at 13:04 helped the Raiders reclaim the lead at 14-13.

As the half wore on, Northwestern continued to execute offensively, with Manny Hammonds sinking a three-pointer at 3:48 to push the lead to 35-30. Despite their steady scoring, the Red Raiders faced a tenacious Mount Marty team that stayed close, capitalizing on free throws and late turnovers. The first half ended with the Lancers ahead by a slim margin, 40-39.

In the second half, the Raiders aimed to close the gap, starting with a three-pointer from Hammonds to tie it up at 42-42. However, the Lancers responded with a series of scoring plays, extending their lead to a game-high 14 points with 7:06 left on the clock. Van Kalsbeek was aggressive to keep Northwestern in it, helping the Raiders trim the deficit to 77-70 following his pair of free throws.

Down the stretch, Langsy knocked down a deep three-pointer with just 39 seconds remaining, narrowing the score to 79-73. Despite relentless efforts, including another three-pointer by Langsy near the end, the Raiders couldn't overcome Mount Marty's lead as the Lancers left Orange City with an 83-78 win.
