Comeback Attempt Thwarted in Saturday Showdown

SEWARD, Neb. – No. 17-ranked Northwestern faced a tough battle against Concordia, narrowly missing victory with a final score of 85-82 on Saturday at Friedrich Arena. Despite a spirited second-half push, the Red Raiders couldn't quite erase the Bulldogs' early lead.

Northwestern burst out of the gates with energy, jumping to a 12-4 lead, thanks to Kaleb Booth's three-pointer at 15:35. The Raiders kept their foot on the gas with sharp shooting and tight defense, as Jalen Langsy added pivotal baskets to keep things close.

But Concordia didn't back down, turning turnovers into points and sinking a series of three-pointers to flip the script. Even with Jesse Van Kalsbeek working hard in the paint, the Bulldogs' offensive burst late in the half built them a solid lead. The opening half wrapped up with the Raiders behind 51-37.

Northwestern came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, quickly chipping away at the 14-point gap. Booth and Langsy both drained early three-pointers to cut the deficit. Defensive highlights included a big block from Langsy and Van Kalsbeek's dominance on the boards, helping the Raiders stay in the hunt.

As the game wore on, Northwestern kept the pressure on with Brennan Reid's three-pointer at 14:37, followed by more clutch scoring from Langsy, keeping the game within striking distance. Carter Van Hulzen's layup at 7:45 brought them within a point at 68-67 at the 7:45 mark, but Concordia answered with back-to-back threes to once again widen the gap.

Down the stretch, Northwestern was down by three with under a minute to go before Concordia sunk a pair of free throws to make it a five-point contest. Later on, Van Kalsbeek secured an offensive board off a missed free throw, leading to a Reid layup to make it 83-82 with less than three seconds to go. The Bulldogs converted on both free throws on the other end, sealing it at 85-82.
