Prescott Resigns as Director of Esports

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern Director of Esports Cole Prescott has resigned from his position after six years in the role.

"Cole built a strong foundation for our Esports program as a unique intentionally Christian program reflecting the mission of Northwestern College," said Vice President for Athletics Tony Hoops. "I'm thankful for the passionate work he poured into the program over the past six years and wish him all the best in his new endeavor."

Hired in 2019, Prescott built the Raider esports program into a nationally recognized contender, winning tournament titles across the region.

The Raider Smash Bros Ultimate and Rocket League teams won the inaugural GPAC Esports Tournament in 2025, while Overwatch took the runner-up trophy. Also in 2025, Northwestern's JV Overwatch team finished second in the nation in the NECC's sixth division and varsity Overwatch claimed its second consecutive Heartland Showdown title.

During the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, the esports teams have secured an NECC conference championship, a conference runner-up finish, two second-place LAN tournament finishes, and a LAN tournament title.

In the 2022-23 academic year, Prescott led the Northwestern Rocket League squad to their first-ever conference title, qualifying them for nationals. Additionally, the Red Raiders won the school's first-ever championship with the Fall 2020 GGLeagues Overwatch championship.

"Building the esports program at Northwestern these last six years has been an incredibly rewarding journey," Prescott stated. "I love this place and its mission. I will miss the work and the community of like-minded, Christ centered coaches and leaders immensely, but I am very proud of what we've built so far in Raider Esports, and I cannot wait to see where things go in the years to come."

Prescott has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Association of Esports Coaches and Directors (NAECD) since 2022, working as a member of their senior leadership team. He has also hosted multiple clinic sessions on various topics, such as Esports Recruiting, Effective Esports Film ReviewEsports Facilities and EquipmentStudent Development Strategies, and Student Discipline & Program Culture.

A national search to fill the role will begin immediately.
