Mikkelsen Earns Third Team All-American Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwestern softball infielder Gwen Mikkelsen has been named a Third Team NAIA All-American, the national office announced today.

Mikkelsen, a senior from Casa Grande, Arizona, earns her second NAIA All-American honor and third overall. She hit .429 with a career-high 63 RBIs and a .701 slugging percentage. The senior third baseman led the team with nine home runs and 17 doubles, also posting a team-high 1.222 OPS. Mikkelsen led the GPAC in RBIs and was second in the league in batting average.

"Gwen has been a staple of Northwestern softball since arriving on campus," said head coach Shane Bouman. "Gwen is one of the best to wear the Raider uniform offensively and defensively, and she raised the standard of our softball program."

The four-year Raider ends her career as one of the top players in program history. Her name is scattered across the Northwestern record books, leading the program in career doubles (72) and sitting top-three in hits (265), batting average (.413), slugging percentage (.653), runs (181), and RBIs (189), among others.

Oklahoma City's Analise Rayburn was named the NAIA Player of the Year, and Ayla Davies of Southern Oregon was named the NAIA Pitcher of the Year. Mikkelsen was one of two GPAC athletes to receive All-American honors.
