Schmalbeck's Perfect Day Leads to Two Wins

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Northwestern avoids the weather as they faced off in a double-header against Waldorf inside the ASB Dome in Sioux Center. The Raiders got the offense humming early in the first game, winning 10-2 in five innings. Game two didn't come easily as after trailing 4-1, Northwestern rattled off 10 unanswered runs to win 11-4 in seven innings.

How It Happened:
The Raiders took an early lead in the first inning when Tatum Schmalbeck scored on an error by the second baseman after reaching base on a single, resulting in a 1-0 advantage. The second inning saw Northwestern extend their lead significantly. Sydney Jacobs doubled to drive in Myla Murphy, and Schmalbeck followed with a two-run home run, bringing the score to 4-0.

In the third inning, Faith Kacmarynski and Cassidy Gors each scored on errors, and Schmalbeck continued to deliver at the plate with an RBI double, contributing to a four-run inning. The Warriors managed to score one unearned run, but Northwestern led 8-1 by the end of the inning. The fifth inning sealed the victory for the Raiders. A single from Schmalbeck brought in two more runs, earning a 10-2 victory in just five innings.

  • Tatum Schmalbeck goes four-for-four with five RBIs, one triple away from hitting for the cycle.
  • Myla Murphy was also perfect with three hits in three at-bats, while stealing two bases.

How It Happened:
In the second inning, the Warriors jumped out to an early lead with a sacrifice fly and subsequent RBIs scoring the first three runs of the contest. Northwestern responded with Kavri Van Kekerix scoring on a single by Tatum Schmalbeck, ending the inning at 3-1 in favor of Waldorf.

The Warriors added to their lead in the fourth, going up 4-1, before the Raiders hit their stride. Berkley Johannsen initiated the scoring with a double that brought in Van Kekerix. Schmalbeck followed with an RBI double of her own, and Paige Kingery's two-run homer extended Northwestern's lead 6-4 after four.

The fifth inning saw the Raiders solidify their advantage as Myla Murphy, pinch running for Faith Kacmarynski, scored on another double by Johannsen. Schmalbeck and Rylee Bomgaars followed with RBI hits, and Allison Koontz's double brought in two more runs. Kingery added another RBI single, pushing the score to 11-4 for the Raiders. The game concluded with strong defensive efforts, as Northwestern scored 10 unanswered runs, securing the 11-4 win over Waldorf.
