No-Hitter Leads to Dykstra’s GPAC Weekly Honor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern baseball pitcher/outfielder Drew Dykstra claimed this week's GPAC Pitcher of the Week award, led by a no-hit performance last Monday.

A senior from Urbandale, Iowa, Dykstra opened spring break with a no-hitter against Cornerstone (Mich.), striking out eight batters on the day. It was Northwestern's first no-hit pitching performance since 2014.

"Drew has been incredible so far," head coach Brian Wede said. "He's been consistent and aggressive in the strike zone, which has made hitters very uncomfortable."

Dykstra followed up his effort next time on the mound with a 7-1 win over Trinity Baptist (Fla.), punching out nine batters and allowing just two hits. He currently leads the GPAC in ERA (0.31) and strikeouts (35).

"He was so locked in on both starts this week and has had one of the best weeks of any pitcher during my career," Wede added.

The senior southpaw earns his second career GPAC Pitcher of the Week honor and is Northwestern's first weekly award winner this season.
