Raiders’ Postseason Run Ends in Crete

CRETE, Neb. – Northwestern fell to Doane with a final score of 12-2 in a GPAC tournament elimination game on Thursday. The Red Raiders managed two runs on six hits, while the Tigers capitalized on a seven-run eighth inning to secure the victory.

How It Happened
The Red Raiders started the game by taking an early lead in the first inning. Ranier Castillo was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on an error, allowing Devin Dirkx to move into scoring position. Grant Guidry grounded out to shortstop, driving in Castillo to put Northwestern ahead 1-0.

Doane responded in the second inning with a four-run surge. Brayden Jones hit a solo home run, followed by Johnny Vulcano and Sam Kwapnioski reaching base. Jordan Bond's single scored Vulcano, and Carter Roth's single drove in two more runs, giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead through the second inning.

The game remained quiet until the seventh inning when both teams scored. The Tigers added a run with Tanner Nelson's RBI single. Northwestern answered back with Jack Craig doubling and later scoring on Bryce Click's sacrifice fly. By the end of the seventh inning, the score was 5-2 in favor of the Tigers.

In the eighth inning, Doane extended its lead significantly with a seven-run frame. This offensive outburst left the Red Raiders trailing 12-2 after the eighth inning.

The Tigers shut down the Red Raiders in the ninth inning, securing a 12-2 victory.
