Raiders Drop Late-Season GPAC Tilt

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern took on No. 5 Briar Cliff in the Newman Flanagan Center on Wednesday night, falling 80-61 on the road.

The game opened with a slim Red Raider lead, as Northwestern got out to a 7-5 advantage on a bucket by Ashtyn Wobig at the 6:40 mark. Allison Piercy and Molly Schany both added baskets in the final minutes of the fram, but despite Northwestern's efforts, the Chargers ended the quarter ahead 23-14.

The second quarter saw strong performances from the Raiders, who outscored the Chargers 18-10. Wobig contributed significantly with a three-pointer at 3:12 and a pair of free throws at 5:46. Hali Anderson also made key plays, including a triple with just 15 seconds left, taking the lead briefly. Molly Schany was active with a crucial two-point basket at 1:36, and Lexie Van Kekerix added to the scoring drive with a two-pointer at 1:59, ending the half with a one-point deficit

The second half opened with Allison Piercy hitting a trey, giving the Red Raiders a brief lead at 35-33. However, the Chargers responded with a scoring run, netting 14 points in the paint for the quarter and extending their lead. Despite efforts from the Raiders, the Chargers maintained their momentum, concluding the quarter with a 60-42 lead.

Briar Cliff secured the win in the fourth, extending its lead to as many as 26 points, dropping the Raiders to 17-10 overall, 13-8 in conference play.

GAME NOTES
  • Molly Schany recorded her 15th double-double this season, going for 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Hali Anderson added 11 points with eight boards.
  • Also in double figures was Lexie Van Kekerix with 10 points.
  • Northwestern led the rebounding battle 37-26.
  • Tonight was Northwestern's 10th game against a top-25 opponent.
