Raiders Dominate on Senior Day

Orange City, Iowa. – Northwestern College (18-10) defeated Waldorf University (6-21) with a final score of 96-58 on Saturday at the Bultman Center. 

The Red Raiders established an early lead in the first quarter, highlighted by a strong offensive performance. Ashtyn Wobig sparked the team with a 3-pointer at 8:27, followed by a layup shortly after, putting the Raiders ahead 5-2. Hali Anderson further extended the lead with crucial plays, including a 3-pointer at 6:57 and a layup at 3:53. The team maintained momentum with consistent scoring, closing the quarter with a 23-10 advantage over the Warriors. 

In the second quarter, the Raiders extended their lead, with Anderson contributing significantly by scoring seven points, including a layup and two free throws within a minute. Lexie Van Kekerix also played a pivotal role, securing five points, including a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, and assisting on Anderson's layup at 7:21. The Raiders' defense capitalized on the Warriors' turnovers, totaling five steals and allowing only eight rebounds, compared to their 12 rebounds, leading to a 22-15 advantage in the quarter. 

In the third quarter, the Raiders extended their lead with a strong performance, highlighted by Anderson's early layup and free throw at 9:45, followed by her 3-pointer at 8:44. By 6:40, Anderson's layup helped the Raiders achieve their largest lead of the game at 27 points. Van Kekerix contributed with a steal and an assist, and Allison Piercy added to the scoreboard with a layup at 9:15 and later assisted Anderson. The quarter ended with the Raiders outscoring the Warriors 24-19, maintaining a commanding lead. 

In the fourth quarter, the Raiders maintained an impressive performance, outscoring the Warriors 27-14 and extending their lead to 43 points at one point. Piercy was instrumental, scoring consecutively with two 3-pointers and a layup within the first few minutes, assisted first by Van Kekerix and then by Anderson and Wobig. The team's defense was also notable, with Anderson and Kylie Foss each contributing crucial rebounds, while Jenna Kluxdal and Emily TerWee capitalized on free throws to further secure the Raiders' dominant lead. 

GAME NOTES 

  • Anderson also brought in 11 rebounds on the day 

  • Lexi Van Kekerix had a solid day with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists 

  • Northwestern took care of the ball well with only 5 turnovers on the game 

  • Kylie Foss was strong on the defensive end with 3 steals
