Women’s Basketball Handed Road Loss

HASTINGS, Neb. – It was a tough outing for Northwestern College as they fell to Hastings College, 112-70, after holding a five-point lead late in the first quarter.

Northwestern came out strong in the first quarter, quickly jumping ahead with a jumper from Ashtyn Wobig, thanks to an assist by Kylie Foss. The team was clicking, showcasing smooth ball movement with nine assists on ten baskets. Even with some turnovers, the Raiders held their ground, with Emily TerWee and Margo Schuiteman grabbing key defensive rebounds to limit Hastings' second-chance points.

The Raiders responded to the Broncos' early pressure by seizing scoring chances, including a late three-pointer from Allison Piercy, set up by Mya Kochuten, to push their lead. The quarter ended with Jenna Kluxdal sinking a jumper in the final seconds, putting Northwestern in the lead, 27-22.

The momentum shifted in the second quarter as the Broncos took advantage of turnovers and heated up from beyond the arc. Northwestern kept a narrow lead for a while with free throws from Margo Schuiteman and a jumper by Wobig. However, Hastings came alive with a series of three-pointers, including clutch shots from Ann Bose and Macy Bryant, to take the game into their hands.

Despite Northwestern's efforts, including a three-pointer from Schuiteman at 4:16 to knot the score at 39, Hastings pushed back with a three-pointer from Mariyah Avila, stretching their lead. The quarter wrapped up with Northwestern trailing 51–43 after a late three-pointer by Schuiteman.

The third quarter was all about Hastings as they dominated with a significant scoring run, outscoring Northwestern 39–17. The Raiders had a promising start with early baskets from TerWee and Wobig, cutting the deficit to four points. But the Broncos answered with a surge of points, powered by three-pointers and free throws, broadening their lead.

The Raiders faced hurdles, and the Broncos capitalized to pull away. Despite efforts from Kluxdal and Schuiteman, Hastings kept their momentum rolling. The quarter ended with Hastings leading 90–60.

The Broncos continued to extend their advantage in the fourth, ending the contest with a 112-70 win.
