Double-OT Win on the Road for Northwestern

ATCHISON, Kan. - Northwestern kicked off their weekend road trip in Kansas with a overtime win over Benedictine 83-76 behind a career-high 32 points from Ashtyn Wobig.

Kicking off the game, Northwestern showcased sharp shooting, hitting four of six three-pointers and nailing five of six free throws. Ashtyn Wobig led the charge from deep, pacing the team with her sharpshooting. On defense, Kylie Foss delivered a crucial block, helping to stifle Benedictine's fast-break opportunities. Despite Benedictine's 14 points in the paint, Northwestern's perimeter shooting and accuracy at the charity stripe kept them in the mix. The quarter wrapped up with both squads knotted at 23.

In the second quarter, the Raiders sought to swing momentum their way, highlighted by Emily TerWee's two strong inside baskets. Though they hustled for seven offensive rebounds, turnovers bogged them down. Wobig drained a timely three-pointer to keep the game within reach. On defense, Northwestern tightened the screws, however, the Ravens capitalized on turnovers, turning them into six points. The Raiders found themselves narrowly trailing, 34-32, at halftime.

Starting the third quarter, Benedictine clung to their lead as Ashtyn Wobig kept the Raiders in the hunt with a three-pointer and two essential free throws. Northwestern's prowess from the line, hitting seven of eight free throws, was pivotal as they closed the quarter down 55-49.

In the fourth, Northwestern seized control with a flurry of points, sparked by Allison Piercy's three-pointer early on. Emily TerWee was dominant in the paint, scoring crucial baskets to tie and then take the lead. Northwestern's defensive rebounds kept Benedictine from second chances, allowing the Raiders to stretch their advantage. As the game tightened, Benedictine tied it at 63 with a three-pointer, but Kylie Foss answered back with a bucket to put Northwestern back on top. Margo Schuiteman came up big, tying the score at 67 with under a minute to go, and the quarter ended with the score locked.

Heading into overtime, Foss grabbed a defensive rebound and Wobig capitalized on turnovers before a pivotal steal by Foss led to a fast-break three-pointer, pushing Northwestern ahead 72-69 with just over two minutes left. Benedictine fought back with a defensive stand, and drew level at 72 to end the first overtime.

In the final overtime, Aubrey Metzger's defensive rebound at 3:22 marked the beginning of a decisive run. Ashtyn Wobig's crucial free throws tied the game at 74. Momentum swung firmly to Northwestern when Allsion Piercy knocked down back-to-back threes in the dying minutes, sealing the game. The Raiders clamped down on defense, allowing just four points in second overtime, and capped off the matchup with an 11-4 run, finishing strong at 83-76.
