Darnold's First Half Hat Trick Leads Raiders to Seven Straight

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (9-1-1, 4-0-0) secured a decisive 5-1 victory over Mount Marty University (2-4-2, 0-3-2) on Saturday at the NWC Soccer Complex, with the Raiders scoring three goals in the first half.

The match commenced with the Red Raiders taking an early lead against the Lancers, as Drew Darnold scored in the 4th minute, assisted by Jannes Kuehn. Darnold continued his scoring run with two more goals at the 16th and 22nd minutes, both assisted by Daniel Lindahl, bringing his season total to nine goals. Mount Marty responded with a goal off a free kick in the 32nd minute by Oliver Danzer. The Raiders maintained pressure throughout the half with numerous shots, while the Lancers struggled with fouls and received a yellow card for Rylan Eide. The first half ended with Northwestern leading 3-1.

The Raiders expanded their lead in the second half with two more goals. In the 57th minute, Lindahl scored his third goal of the season with an assist from Darnold, bringing the score to 4-1. Despite multiple fouls, Northwestern maintained control, with Emerson Brazones netting the final goal in the 88th minute, assisted by Jovany Kabongo. The Lancers struggled offensively, with a few attempts blocked or saved by the Northwestern defense.

GAME NOTES
  • Drew Darnold got his first career hat trick and also picked up an assist. With the hat trick he now leads the GPAC in goals and is second in points
  • Lindahl's two assists and Keuhn's one, they join Quintero at the top of the conference with 4 assists on the season
  • The Raiders outshot the Lancers 23-5 on the game
Up Next: the Raiders travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to face Briar Cliff in an afternoon matchup on October 8. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. as they aim to secure a road victory.
