ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Northwestern College (6-4-1, 2-2-1) fell to Mount Marty University (6-4-1, 3-1-1) with a 3-0 loss at home on Saturday night.
The first half between Northwestern and Mount Marty saw early defensive efforts from both teams. Northwestern's
Grace Najera attempted to break the deadlock in the 8th minute, but couldn't get pass the Lancers' goalkeeper Brooklyn McNac. The Lancers responded with several offensive pushes, leading to Rhyli Grim scoring the lone goal of the half in the 33rd minute, bringing them ahead 1-0. The Raiders'
Bailey Bynum made key saves to keep the score within reach, notably stopping shots from Liz Stordahl and Mika Moriera closing out the first-half with the Lancers leading 1-0.
Mount Marty extended their lead early in the second half with a goal by Moriera in the 48th minute, marking her third of the season. The Raiders responded with a shot from
Hannah Gordon at 49:57, but it went wide right. The Lancers extended their lead with Grim scoring her second goal of the game, assisted by Marissa Moyle, in the 69th minute. Despite several attempts, including an attempt by
Mya Cole at the 86th minute, the Raiders were held scoreless and Mount Marty would walk away with the 3-0 win.
