Raiders Win Second Top-25 Matchup on the Weekend

FREMONT, Neb. – Northwestern won its third top-25 matchup of the year and its second for the weekend, taking down No. 18 in straight sets.

NWC 3, MID 0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-19)

How It Happened
The first set opened with the Red Raiders quickly gaining momentum, establishing a substantial lead with a series of effective attacks. Stella Winterfeld and Aubrey De Groot led the offensive charge for the Raiders, with Winterfeld registering multiple kills and a service ace, contributing to a 10-3 lead. The Warriors attempted a comeback with kills by Brooklynn Snyder and Macey Jackson, but the Raiders maintained their lead, capitalizing on Midland's errors. Zavyr Metzger's block and Winterfeld's consistent hitting kept the Raiders ahead, and the set concluded at 25-17 in favor of the visitors after an attack error by the Warriors.

The Raiders gained momentum early in the second set, with Winterfeld contributing two kills to help build a 4-1 lead. The Warriors responded with a 5-0 run, highlighted by Snyder's two kills and an Avery Couch kill, to take a 6-4 advantage. However, the Raiders regained control with a strong service sequence from Winterfeld, whose back-to-back aces and a block with Metzger propelled them to a 9-6 lead. The Warriors called a timeout after the Red Raiders extended their lead to 12-7, but continued attack errors by the Warriors allowed the Raiders to widen the gap. Closing out the set at 25-14, a kill by Emma Westphal from Nyah Potthoff sealed the decisive win for the Raiders.

The Raiders opened the third set with a commanding 4-0 run, featuring two service aces credited to Sidney Oostra. The Warriors responded with a series of points, narrowing the gap to 4-3 after attack errors by the Raiders. However, the Raiders regained control, extending their lead to 7-3 with kills from De Groot and Winterfeld. Metzger's consistent performance, including a crucial kill at 24-19, set up the match point, which concluded with a block by Metzger and Westphal, sealing the set at 25-19 for the Raiders.
