It's All Raiders in Conference Showdown

ORANGE CITY, Iowa - Northwestern put on a show for the home crowd as the newly #3 ranked team in the nation dominated Mount Marty in a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday night.

How It Happened

Northwestern took an early 4-0 lead with three consecutive attack errors from Mount Marty, two of which were blocked by Zavyr Metzger. Stella Winterfeld contributed early with a kill, while Metzger added another two kills to extend the lead. Despite a timeout from Mount Marty at the score of 9-3, the Raiders maintained control with key plays from Maddy Sampson and Rylie Franken. A block by Metzger and Franken, followed by a service ace by the team, sealed the set for Northwestern.

The Raiders secured the second set with a decisive 25-17 victory over the Lancers. Winterfeld played a significant role, contributing multiple kills and two service aces, including a critical one that brought the score to 7-3. Mount Marty attempted to close the gap, but Northwestern's consistent pressure proved too much. The set concluded with Franken's kill and an attack error by the Lancers, sealing the Raiders' win.

Northwestern dominated the third set against the Lancers, opening with a commanding 6-0 lead fueled by consecutive attack errors and a kill by Rylie Franken, with assists from Liv Reitsma. Mount Marty called a timeout after falling behind 6-0, but Northwestern continued to capitalize on errors and blocks, extending their lead to 14-0 before the Lancers broke the streak with a kill. Raiders maintained control, with Makenna Lilly and Stella Winterfeld contributing key kills, and ultimately secured the set 25-8 following an attack error by Mount Marty.

  • It was a balanced attack for the Raiders with four players over five kills.
  • Zavyr Metzger was once again dominate at the net with 11 total blocks, including four solo.
  • Metzger added four kills on top of her defensive performance.
  • Rylie Franken and Maddy Sampson both notch six kills and hit over .600.
  • Maggie Bloom added two service aces to her pristine serving during Northwestern's 14-0 run.
