Northwestern Holds Off Second-Half Test at Home

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – No. 7 Northwestern opened the New Year with a single-digit win at home, holding off Hastings 95-86 in the Bultman Center.

The Raiders took control early in the first half, opening with consecutive free throws by Alex Van Kalsbeek at 19:59 and a 3-pointer from Kaleb Booth at 19:42 to establish a 5-0 lead. Jesse Van Kalsbeek contributed significantly to the offense, adding points with a layup and dunk, while Zach LaFave's defensive rebounds helped maintain possession. With a strong finish, including a 3-pointer by Conner Geddes at 2:01, the Red Raiders secured a 53-36 lead by the end of the half.

In the second half, the Raiders maintained a consistent lead over the Broncos, with Alex Van Kalsbeek contributing significantly through multiple successful free throws and layups, including a layup at 10:32 that maintained the lead at 66-59. Jesse Van Kalsbeek was active on both ends, securing key rebounds, a steal, and converting free throws to keep the team ahead. Marcus Kelderman added a 3-pointer with 4:12 remaining, extending the lead to 69-59. The Red Raiders' defense was solid, with Jalen Langsy and Kaleb Booth each recording steals in the half, helping to secure a 95-86 victory.
